How much does a custom laser cutting job cost?

Custom jobs are priced on machine time — $1.50 per minute for standard cutting, $2.00 for complex or multi-pass work, and $1.20 for engraving — plus materials if we supply them. There is a $35 minimum charge on any custom job, which covers setup, file prep and a test cut.

What file formats do you need?

SVG, DXF, AI, PDF or CDR for cutting. For engraving, high-resolution PNG, JPG or BMP. Send them through and we will check them for free. If you only have a sketch or a photo, we can draw it up — simple design work is $30 per hour, detailed vector artwork $50 per hour.

How long does a job take?

Standard turnaround is 5 business days at no extra charge. Express is 2 business days for a 25% surcharge, and rush jobs turned around in 24 hours carry a 50% surcharge. Bigger production runs are scheduled individually.

Do you offer discounts on larger quantities?

Yes. 10 to 24 pieces take 10% off, 25 to 49 take 15%, 50 to 99 take 20%, and anything over 100 is quoted individually at around 25% off.

Can I supply my own material?

Yes, as long as we can confirm what it is. We cannot cut PVC, vinyl, polycarbonate or ABS because they release fumes that are toxic and damage the machine. If you are not sure what a material is, bring a small offcut and we will test it first.

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST for retail customers. Businesses with an ABN can be quoted excluding GST — just say so when you enquire and we'll show both.

SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY

If it isn't on the list above, it's a custom job — architectural models, jigs and templates, prototype parts, enclosures, awards, big signage runs. Priced on machine time, so you only pay for what the job actually takes.

$35 minimum charge on any custom job — that covers setup, file prep and a test cut.

If we supply the material it's charged at cost plus 30% (specialty stock such as coloured acrylic, Tasmanian timbers or leather, plus 40%). Supply your own and you pay for machine time alone.

Payment terms. Under $200, pay on completion. Between $200 and $1,000, a 50% deposit with the balance on completion. Over $1,000, 50% deposit with progress billing on longer jobs.

Quotes hold for 30 days and are subject to material availability.

Pick up from Devonport, or we'll post it. Repeat orders of the same job are quicker and cheaper — the setup is already done.

WHAT WE CAN'T DO

We run a CO₂ laser, so we can't cut metal. We can engrave anodised aluminium, glass and slate, but cutting steel or aluminium needs a fibre laser — if that's your job, we'll say so and point you somewhere that can help.

We also won't cut PVC, vinyl, polycarbonate or ABS. They release fumes that are genuinely dangerous and corrode the machine, so it isn't a matter of price. If you're unsure what a material is, bring a small offcut and we'll test it.
